On Friday 7 August at the 02 Academy Islington, Drive will once again be pulling out all the stops to produce a jaw dropping spectacular and are appealing to guitar gods of all ages to surrender their souls. With the winner sent on a prize ticket to represent the nation in the 14th Air Guitar World Championships in Finland on 19-21 August 2009, the stakes are once again sky high.
The judging panel will include twice UK Air Guitar Championship winner Gabi Matzeu AKA The Hoxton Creeper and twice WORLD CHAMPION, Zac Monro, the finest UK exponent of Air Guitar to have graced the world stage and a passionate defender of the artform.
With no equipment or special skills required, Air Guitar is attainable by everybody, regardless of race, gender, age, social status or sexual orientation. The ideology behind the movement is that if everyone in the world held an Air Guitar, they could not simultaneously be holding a gun, therefore paving the way for world peace. Seen as a form of musical self-expression, a competitive sport and performance art, Air Guitar combines the individuality of stand-up comedy with the expressionism and dirty freedom of rock ‘n’ roll.

The stigmatised, yet highly intoxicating, artform which allows mere mortals a taste of rock stardom has continued to sweep the globe bringing the total number of competing countries to 21 in the 2008 Air Offs with Kenya, Russia, South Africa and Estonia recently entering the fray.
Now in its fourth year the electrifying UK contest, which is open to all and is a fearsome test of both skill and performer sensibilities, will again be hosted by Miss Fancy Chance, recent winner of the Alternative Miss World 2009 also produced by Drive Productions at Camden’s legendary Roundhouse in May.
