STONYFIELD
Author: adminDe-pollute your commute!
Drive were commissioned to produce a very special vehicle for Stonyfield, an environmentally conscious organic yogurt company.
As an alternative to the conventional car, Stony is offering a calm, carbon-free journey to work, courtesy of their specially designed carriage.
Made entirely from sustainable materials and shaped like a funky yogurt pot, the carriage caters for commuter comfort with a solar-powered fridge and laptop, and a mini soundsystem.
For the chassis of the Stony cart Drive acquired a beautiful late 19th century French built Victoria carriage. Using ethically sourced timber, organic paints and a carbon off-setting allocation, we transformed the carriage at our workshop in Camberwell without damaging its original features.
We fitted a bespoke mechanism to drive the ‘propeller’ at the rear. The propeller has three oversized wooden spoons for blades which were each meticulously hand-carved in seasoned ash. The propeller base was salvaged from a WWII search light!
The carriage and its crew successfully toured London, Manchester and Birmingham, and proved to be a real crowdstopper. Members of the public were delighted to see such a querky and gorgeous-looking vehicle clip-clopping along the street.
The carriage took Vanessa Phelps from her home to the BBC studios in Marylebone, and the Mayor of Birmingham enjoyed a pleasure trip around the block. Radio interviews were conducted in the carriage in all three cities, and the carriage appeared in a full-page article in the Birmingham Evening Post.
